Hi,

Bruce Copley want to sell a few Hanghang at Ebay for a lot of money a short time ago. I read a lot of comments on his ebay accounts about the tuning problem. I think this video is a result from this ebay sells. Maybe he is frustrated, because nobody want to pay so much for his Hang?

On the video the tuner dont play an "out of tune" Hang. He explained, that it is no problem for an expert Steelpan tuner to tune a Hang. He hammered a little bit on an Hang.
After that, we dont see that he play this Hang. What show this video?
Nothing!
No out of tune Hang. No well tuned Hang. Nobody knows how the Hang sound before and after. Only to say, that he can tune a Hang is for me unconvincing.
Maybe he can tune notes, who are a little bit out of tune. But what is with an Hang what is more out of balance?

Greetings
Frank

Yes my thoughts to ;)
If it were just a question of finding your local friendly pan tuner then why don't the same tuners start building Hang.
And no we are not confused.
I think Bruce is a bit frustrated with the failed sales of his high priced Hang.
And to end the blurb with the words "The truth will set you free" :?

Bruce Copley is a bloody crook! Anyone who buys a Hang off him is only ever going to pay over the top and if his supposed tuner friend who sits there with a couple of rubber headed mallets thinks he can tune a Hang like that, then seriously I think PANart need to take legal action against him... what a joke! the video is laughable!

Claims like this are damaging for the future of the Hang ownership, sod all to do with whether PANart are the only people or not, surely from having seen how other professional Hang makers have struggled to bring a Hang to the market people can clearly see its more that hitting it a couple of times with a bloody mallet.

This guys makes me so angry, he's a bloody crook!

Can I presume that PANart have been made aware of this joker?

Anyone buying a Hang from eBay, do not buy simple as that, his claims are unfounded and totally untrue, you detune your Hang you need it dealt with by a professional and not some rubber mallet wealding actor!

Laughable :)

This video expose just one thing that this man wants from the hang customers= MONEY... just pay attetion of the CRAPPY video quality, location, and also that slooowwwwlyyy voice of that CRAPPY man...

I believe that a serious steel pan maker could be re-tune a hang, but keeping in mind other facts and not making videos trying to explain how CRAP he is ;-).

Some people just want to make profit.

Hope PANART willtake legal action to this man...

Ha!!! You really want me to express my opinion on this one? allright then...
I've seen this same video a couple of days ago, and I almost made a real nasty comment on youtube. I didn't in the end, because why should I take BS like this seriousely?

As Massimiliano said, a pantuner could tune (or should I say "make pitch adjustments" to) a Hang. Sure. I "can" tune Andy Narells master steel pan instruments from Ellie Mannette. But I wouldn't like to, unless Andy and me are captured on that little island and no one else is around...
I mean, Imagineeye has sent his Hang to Kyle Cox to be tuned and it came back in a playable condition (as I heard on his youtube-clip). So yes, anyone can do anything anyway.

I said it before: The "how" and "why" is very important. And the how's and why's of Doctor Copley seem very strange to me. But what bothers me a lot more is the attitude of a colleague pan tuner in south africa who pretends to know everything but doesn't really have a friggin' idea of what's going on.

I regret that there is no smiley with a deep red head, steaming out of ears..... grummel***

I can't tell if the hang hang are out of tune or merely rebelling at being played so violently!

Here is another customer of the same Pan tuner:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfcTIF8fxkA Image

I think this is the reason, why Dr. Bruce Copley think any pan tuner next door can tune a Hang: He cannot play the Hang. He never learned the sensivity that is needful to get all of a Hang's sound. He is in the very early "the more force the more sound" stadium - A Hang player embryo. Would you ask an embryo for an advice how to brew beer or repair a motor bike? So why should anybody ask Dr. Bruce for an advice about Hang tuning? If he can get only those noises out of a Hang he presented in his video, he really cannot hear any difference between a Hang tuned by the pan tuner next door and a Hang tuned by PANArt.

How many Hanghang did he have again? A dozen?

So very, very sad. Not in the 'pitiful' sense. In the 'that makes me very sad' sense.

I wanted to throw a small quip in about perhaps being a Dr. of economics or something like that. Obviously he's about making money, not music. Well making music for a price perhaps..... :(
